I believe we all like being acknowledged when it is something akin to spontaneous and on point. The relationships we have with people will let us know, if we are actually building relationships like this, what kinds of acknowledgment supports them. As a tactic, appreciating people is phony and occurs like manipulation. I like it however much better than the tactic using fear of loss, the whip and the club. A carrot, even stale and limp looks good against the them.
